I am considering buying a latex mattress, costing close to $5000 for a king size. How long is it going to last?

Ask the people who are selling it what the life expectancy should be. It ought to be fairly long. That’s a very expensive mattress. I’ve had foam mattresses in quite good shape after 10 years. They didn’t cost 1/10th of that.
If you would have supplied brand name, model, and some specifications we could give you a better idea of life expectancy. A 9″ all natural latex with adjustable firmness option organic cotton and organic wool easily for $3500.00 or so.
$5000.00 is not a guarantee of a quality. Latex mattresses in that range better be organic. You can purchase organic for that or even far less than that that will last 15-30 years. Check out whats the best mattress .com
temper pedic is 1/2 that & Conn’s ( not my favorite ) had really nice knockoff major brand memory foam for under 1000. 5 k is a bit steep
You’ll want to consider Essentia. http://www.myessentia.com. They make the only latex memory foam in the world.
It all depends on the quality of latex. It could last a few years and could last 20+. If you’re buying a big name brand mattress, don’t expect it to last as they’re designed to break down quickly. Sealy, Serta, Simmons ect don’t want your mattress to last 10+ years
Don’t forget, latex is not inherently comfortable because it’s rubber. When you body pushes down on the mattress it pushes right back at you. This creates pressure points and increases tossing and turning. Most latex mattresses makers try to improve its comfort by adding a wool topper but wool does very little for comfort and flattens quickly. Wool also needs to be washed at least once annually as it’s an animal fiber.
Organic latex does not exists btw. There are no such certifications in the world of latex foam.
Check out http://www.mattresshero.com they have latex mattresses for 1/2 to a 1/3 of that cost with a 20 year warranty. Free shipping and a 90 day sleep trial, you will really need the sleep trial no matter who you buy from juts in case you do like that feel when you sleep.
Try this…

I hope this was helpful for you. Good Luck!
An all natural latex mattress should come with a 20 year warranty and be expected to last 20 – 30 years. Unfortunately up to 80% of latex mattresses are not all natural and are actually made synthetically with petrochemicals. You want to steer clear of synthetic latex mattresses.
To learn everything you need to know about latex mattresses you can check out http://www.HabitatFutons.com. They are the web’s specialty bedding experts and have a great reputation. (And much less expensive natural latex mattresses!)
Good luck!
